"My life-changing journey technically began in August of 2007 when I weighed over 300 pounds. I began walking at a nearby community track with some friends and by the first official weigh in of Hanover’s Biggest Loser Contest I weighed in at 269 pounds, having already lost over 40 pounds.... I am not sure where or how my journey will end but for now I am happy to just enjoy the moment." -Sheron Smith, January 2011
...and she has not stopped for one second since the day her life-changing journey began. At 60 years old, Sheron continues to set new (and extremely ambitious) fitness goals for herself as well as dedicating herself to helping others. She has transformed her mind and body and is now showing others how to do the same. Here's where she is now...
I am honored to be January’s Fashlete of the Month.
Continuing with my quest to conquer the fitness world, I obtained my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer’s Certification in March.
In July, one of my dreams became a reality. Shape Up Hanover, a weight loss group that I designed and now coach, brings me happiness, pride and a sense of accomplishment.
In August, my fitness journey continued when I competed at the York Barbell Olympic Lifting Competition. I won a 1st place medal and a trophy for Best Lifter. In October I competed again. Flying for the first time, I went to Savannah and competed at the Master’s National Event winning gold and the Best Lifter award.
October also brought another new challenge - I turned sixty, which I wasn’t looking forward to, so I planned my own birthday party and celebrated with the support of my family and friends by flipping a tractor tire for a 5K. To make it even more special, I raised funds for MS, raising over $1,300. It was by far the most physically and mentally challenging day of my life.
It has been an awesome year and I am already looking forward to next year!
